The climbing club is the largest sports club at KU by membership and, arguably, the most fun club. We are an enthusiastic group of rock-lovers united by the common plight imposed on us by the topographic realities of Kansas. Though we are several hundred miles from the nearest passable climbing destination, we make the best of our situation by training and socializing at the "Chalk Rock" climbing wall at the rec center, as well as at other climbing gyms in the greater Lawrence and Kansas City areas. Several times a semester we will venture into the wilderness to climb in Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, or Illinois in short but jam-packed weekend trips. We also take advantage of Spring and Fall breaks to stage more elaborate outings to more distant destinations such as Utah, Nevada, and Kentucky.
